Troubleshooting Your Yacker Tracker

Whether your Yacker Tracker has been working perfectly until now, or you’ve had an issue since you first got it, we hope that the following will help.

First things first! Did you read all of the instructions completely? If you can’t find what you did with them (don’t worry... it happens), you can read or download them from Our Site. Just click where it says “Original Yacker Tracker Directions when you get to the page. For Deluxe Yacker Tracker instructions visit This Page and click where it says “Deluxe Yacker Tracker Directions”.

You’ll want to check the location of where you

’re using your Yacker Tracker. Try it in different locations in the area where you are using it to make sure that it’s not being obstructed by anything. You don’t want to place it behind anything where the microphone could be blocked and you don’t want to place it near a door where people will be coming and going. You also don’t want it next to a whiteboard where the sound of writing might be intrusive. Try it on a wall and see if that doesn’t help.

Are you using the correct adapter? The Yacker Tracker is designed to be used with the one included with the unit. Input: 100-240V AC 50-60Hz, output: 97 DC 500 Ma. Using an incompatible adapter may damage the unit. Make sure the adapter is plugged into the unit and the power cord is plugged all the way into the power outlet. If you’re using batteries, make sure they’re in the correct position. Try fresh AA batteries. The unit takes 6. Please note that before installing batteries you must unplug the adapter from the electrical outlet.

If the siren isn’t working, make sure that you’re in Siren Mode by pressing the mode button to toggle through the various options.

If your personal message isn’t working, try recording it again. Press and hold the REC button (don’t let it up!) and start recording your message into the microphone after you hear the first beep sound. Your recording will stop when you either release the REC button or when you hear a second beep beep sound after 15 seconds.

If none of this solves your problem, you may want to return and exchange your unit. Proof of purchase receipt will be required. If you would like to check with us first please fill out this Form and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

Monitoring Pool Noise Can Save a Life

As summer is quickly approaching, it’s time to think about pool safety. If you have a pool at your home or are lucky enough to have access to one, we’d like to share some facts that are both critical and perhaps surprising.  We have excerpted some information here, but to read more, please see Unintentional Childhood Drowning.

• For the years 2005-2009, there were an average of 3,533 fatal unintentional drownings (non-boating related) annually in the United States — about ten deaths per day.
• About one in five people who die from drowning is a child 14 or younger. For every child who dies from drowning, another five receive emergency department care for nonfatal submersion injuries.
• Children ages 1 to 4 have the highest drowning rates. In 2009, among children 1 to 4 years old who died from an unintentional injury, more than 30% died from drowning.  Among children ages 1 to 4, most drownings occur in home swimming pools. Drowning is responsible for more deaths among children 1-4 than any other cause except congenital anomalies. 
• Among those 1-14, fatal drowning remains the second-leading cause of unintentional injury-related death behind motor vehicle crashes.

We know that you are concerned with keeping children safe. So are we. When children are playing in a pool or in a pool area there is a lot of happy noise to be heard. Sometimes it’s so happy that it’s almost deafening! While having fun is a wonderful part of life – and childhood – if the noise might drown out a child calling in distress, or you might not hear your child at all, this could signal a serious problem. Since children should always be watched while in this situation, if you turn away for even a moment you could be inviting danger. With a Yacker Tracker installed you will be able to monitor the noise level at all times. You set the limit of acceptable noise and you set it so that you can clearly hear the ongoing activity. If the area is larger, you may want more than one Yacker Tracker. There is nothing more dearly than the life of your child. Noise is a Distraction!

Have you ever sat at your desk at work and heard someone in the next cubicle or at the next desk talking loudly on the phone or to another co-worker? Have you ever been to a board meeting and the person who always talks at the top of his or her lungs is about to take center stage? How about at a committee or association meeting? The person with the decibel-blasting voice has a hand up and you can’t help but cringe in advance. If only it weren’t impolite to say “shhhh” or “oh, please” in these situations. But as a person of great civility, you know that you can’t. So what to do? Install a Yacker Tracker!

Noise is a great distraction when you’re trying to get work done, or to understand something or even to keep a thought in your head. We’re talking about intrusive noise. You can’t help the sound of a garbage truck, or a fight next door, or a sonic boom. But it’s common sense to control the noise that you can. According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, noise also affects people’s health by increasing general stress levels and aggravating stress-related conditions such as high blood pressure, coronary disease, peptic ulcers and migraine headaches. Continued exposure only makes it worse. You don’t get used to it.  And on top of that, stress resulting from unwanted noise may decrease higher brain function, impairing learning and memory. All of which are very important to hang on to when you’re in a business or any setting.

When you install a Yacker Tracker in a meeting room you won’t offend anyone, and you might well be bringing relief to many others like yourself. When ideas and emotions are vented in public it seems only normal that voices would rise. Especially over divisive or even new ideas. When the yellow light on the Yacker Tracker goes on it’s a gentle reminder to the speaker that the approved sound level is about to be broached. When you install one in your office (if you’re the boss, go for it. If you’re not, ask first!) you might sense the calm that settles in. No one will want to hear the siren go off when the light turns red, so it’s a perfect tool for keeping things under control. You’ll be surprised at how much more effective it is to accomplish goals when courtesy reigns!

Understanding Your Needs for Yacker Tracker Replacement Parts

With you in mind, over the years Yacker Tracker has made several design changes to the original Yacker Tracker as well as to the newer Deluxe Yacker Tracker model with remote control.  If you are in need of something related to our products, here is some information that you may find helpful.

If you have purchased the original Yacker Tracker after 2009, you will most likely have a unit made with LED lights, and there will never be a need for replacement bulbs. 

If you have purchased a Deluxe Yacker Tracker at any time, they have all been made with LED lights and will not need replacement bulbs, either.

Since the original Yacker Tracker has gone from using bulbs to LED lights, you never have to worry about replacing the bulbs. If you have purchased the original Yacker Tracker before the switch to LED, you may find that you need replacement bulbs.  We have replacement packages of bulbs with six bulbs in each.  Or you might need an AC adapter.  If you own the Deluxe version, you may need a replacement remote. Whether you need a replacement or an extra remote for a second station so that it can be supervised by others, you can order now or when the need arises.

If you are ordering a replacement power adapter, be sure to note if you need it for your “lightbulb” Yacker Tracker.  If you neglect to let us know, we will be sending you the adapter for our LED models.

Yacker Trackers are being used for so many helpful and innovative ways!

Over the years we have been thrilled to have our invention being used in classrooms, school cafeterias, hospital ICUs, nurses stations, waiting rooms, deaf schools, business offices,  and even Trader Joe’s! The DEMAND and uses for Yacker Tracker is growing in ways we never imagined!

Users of Yacker Trackers are growing, and in ways we never thought. Yacker Tracker started out as being a simple tool to help teachers gain noise control in their classrooms. Yacker Tracker is now sold in almost every country in the world and used in such imaginative ways, some frankly, never expected. Exciting!

In schools they've had great success with thousands of classrooms using them to monitor sound, but school employees are an imaginative lot. For example, schools for the deaf are using them as a visual reminder to students and school cafeterias are using them for group noise control. Speech teachers and theatrical companies are using them to measure projection and even Toast Masters have used them for both projection and length of speech as well.

Of course it's been well known that hospitals are using them not only in their nurse’s stations and waiting rooms, but did you also know that they are being used in their operating rooms as well?

Business offices have started to use them to quiet overly noisy workers. Railroad lines are using them to test the effects of noise on certain towns and housing tracks. Some city council chambers have used them to monitor the length of speaker's presentations and Trader Joe's have used them as a decoration for themes in their stores.
